about

Douglas Chay Baltimore, Maryland

Influences include Violent Femmes, the Velvet Underground & Talking Heads, but the music of his forebears is filtered through his own distinctive world view & sonic approach, resulting in a creation uniquely his own.

Simple without being simplistic, accessible without being sycophantic, & clever without feeling smug, he achieves a compelling balance between the new & the familiar. - Scott Hollis

Track Name: Flying a Plane
See the people leaning on each other in the terminal
They're waiting in a line to buy a ticket to get where they're going
And they're always tired because their clocks are set to a different time zone
They hope their baggages won't leave them all alone I'm with them

Flying a plane I'm flying a plane
Up through the clouds and over the rain
I'm spilling my juice but I don't mind the stain
Cause I'm flying a plane I'm flying a plane

Me I've got a window seat, I'm staring at the tiny people
Riding tiny cars I think I see you in the yard
The movie's over and the stewardess asks me what I want to drink
I order, eat my food and relish every little turbulence because I'm

Flying a plane I'm flying a plane
Can't wait until I do it again
It's a kind of candy for my brain
Cause I'm flying a plane I'm flying a plane

Flying a plane I'm flying a plane
Up through the clouds and over the rain
I'm spilling my juice but I don't mind the stain
Cause I'm flying a plane I'm flying a plane

Track Name: The Violent Disorientation of Your Sex
Can I come to you?
Can I talk to you?
Will you help me when I need one like you?

I don't know where I'm going
I want to do it now
I don't know who I'm talking to
But it's you somehow

So help me and take me
And make me into you
And take me so closely
And let me be with you

Let me be with you in the morning
Let me be with you all day
I don't know how it's working
But things should work out this way

Cause I love you and I want to
Be a part of you

I want to feel you in my brain
And I want you to love me until I go insane
And I want to put my hand on you
And I want to feel it and I want to move it
Around and around

I want to feel you with me right now and all over time
I want to feel you in me right now with my mind
I want to feel you so close, so warm, so close in my brain
I want you, want to be with you so I can live

Oh yeah, oh yeah
We can be who we are
Oh yeah, oh yeah
We can be like a pretty star
In the sky, beyond the clouds
Beyond the sun, behind the sky
Beyond the Dome
Beneath the words and on the curve
Below the blue and under you
And everywhere that you'd think to stare
And no one looks cause they're everywhere
And everyone knows but no one says a word

Cause I just don't know so I can't tell you who I am
Cause child, I just don't know who I am
But I so much want to know
And I never want to hurt you
So please don't ever want to hurt me
Cause I saw you and I need you
Just like I said I never needed anyone
In the way that I need you

Track Name: Suicide
I'm talking to myself, what could be wrong?
Things pile onto my back, been there so long
A thing so consuming enflames my thoughts
Sets me up once again like it did before

I've got this feeling I can't hide
Ahh, suicide

I want to hurt no one, don't get me wrong
It's just that I'm still here, still here alone
The love I feel for you frightens me so
I don't know what to do or where I can go

In creeps a feeling I can't hide
Ahh, suicide

I counted all the cars that passed by today
On my three by five card, wrote down the names
I bought myself a car, drove it into the yard
Gonna see how it works today
Yes I will

I can't imagine how things are themselves
You are then who am I? Was someone else?
I want to be with you, to be alone
Will you let me touch you? Maybe I should go

I feel all crumpled up inside
Just like a friend I don't know why
I do believe I'm gonna die
Ahh, suicide

Track Name: Let it Fly (Version 2)
When you feel scared about the stories that you hear
All you got to do, my dear, is fly
When you're all alone, the phone don't ring and no one home
Open up your eyes, my love, and fly
Fly away from your tears, fly till gravity disappears
Strip your skin and let the sun in your heart
Fly till you feel no more pain
When you've got nothing to lose or gain
Fly till you tear your black inside apart
When you want to die, things don't work even when you try
Spread upon your wings and let it fly
When your throat is small, you're sitting talking to the wall
Open up your legs and let it fly
Fly away from your fear
Fly till you reach the top of this sphere
Crash your car on the boulevard and fly
Melt right through your chair
When you've got no way to go anywhere
Ascending together, you and I
When you feel numb, like Novocain makes your gums become
Give up on the ground, my friend, and fly
When your eye is wet cause of something you can't forget
All you got to do is let it fly

Track Name: Hair Scare
Kelly was a girl I met
When she was working at a Chinese restaurant
Her friends all though she was so nice
But that's not what she wanted
So she built up all her hair
And shake it like she just don't care
But someone with a comb put it on her head
And he messed up all of her hair

He messed it up in the front
He messed it up in the back
Real bad side to side
Oh, it looked so slack
And if Kelly were here today
She'd say, how can you send me to my grave
With that hair

Billy was a guy I guess I knew
From a class I took in school
Everyone made fun of him
When they decided he wasn't cool
So he grew out all his hair
And sprayed it like he just don't care
But someone with a brush
Parted him on the side
And she messed up all his hair

She messed it up in the back
She messed it up on the side
Couldn't hide it with a hat
Couldn't find no place to hide
And if Billy were here today
He'd say, how could you leave me that way
With my hair

Track Name: And Now You're Gone
When I had a monkey pull my hair
You were the one who put it there
So you could pull it out again
You were a friendly friend friend friend
And now you're gone

No one ever made me feel the way I never felt
Everybody says "OK" to everything
Someone somewhere has a paper where it's written down
You were, well maybe that's someone else

Once I think you saw me changing hue
I didn't know just what to do
It always rains upon the hill
I like the rain and like it still
You were the one who's one with me
I couldn't tell you cause of me
And all the love I couldn't show
When it's too late I'll let you know
And now you're gene
Once upon a time a girl I knew
And now you're gone

Track Name: Tied in a Knot
What can I do
I've never wanted to get through to anyone like you now
Through to you
All that I say
I'm hoping will come out OK because I'm apprehensive
Don't want to intrude

What can I do
Can't do a lot when I'm tied in a knot

Who can I blame
For making me feel this way, I'll put the blame on you now
Don't know what else to do
All that I know
I'm thinking of letting it go cause it makes no more sense now
Not in front of you

How am I to
Turn my icicle hot when I'm tied in a knot

What can I do
To find out if I want to with you, you make me so unsure now
So confused
I never thought
That I could ever be re-taught in everything I know now
Just by letting it go

What can I do
I feel like setting rot when I'm tied in a knot
What can I do
Who have I got when I'm tied in a knot
