The Bay City Rollers apparently aren't fans of my work, but that's OK because I'm not particularly a fan of theirs. They insisted that I remix this song omitting the "offending...chainsaw guitar parts," but I declined. However, someone removed it anyway and cut/pasted the chorus into a monotonous mono loop.

A link to the original stereo mix with the offending, feedback-drenched chainsaw guitar parts and song structure without the loop is here. This is what the producer told me:

Very interesting take on "Give A Little Love"...you wouldn't happen to be a Jesus & Mary Chain fan by any chance? I think it's quite adventurous, but a preliminary tape sent to the Rollers themselves hasn't been received very well (along with one other song).

They've asked that the song be either remixed, edited or dropped completely. I only got this info on Monday and have been at odds how to approach this problem.

We are about to master the disc Saturday (which is pushing it at best) to meet our deadline of August 25th...so there isn't any time left for you to make changes -- if you would even consider such a thing.

That leaves creative editing at our end or leaving the tune off. The 'offending' bits have to do with the chainsaw guitar parts -- particularly the one in the right channel. We can have it extracted using ProTools, but that leaves the song in mono...

If we leave it off I feel I'm letting you down because you have put lots of heart into this...however, we are releasing a single off the CD and that would certainly leave you time for a remix -- at which time we could re-introduce the song onto the single (we're doing the same thing with the Klaatu tribute -- there were songs left over that didn't fit on the full-length CD and now they're being released with the single "A Routine Day").

I realize this is a sucky situation and unfortunately, the Rollers do have the final say in this instance -- they have the power to veto the whole project if they so desire by denying us use of their name and licensing of the songs they control :-(

Give a Little Love (Goodison/Wainman) Angles Down

It's a teenage dream to be 17

And to find you're all wrapped up in love

And I found that you made a dream come true

Now I do believe in what they say

You've got to give a little love, take a little love

Be prepared to forsake a little love

And when the sun comes shining through

We'll know what to do

Give a little love, take a little love

Be prepared to forsake a little love

And when the sun comes shining through

We'll know what to do

When I walk with you, there is just we two

And the world goes by but I just don't care

And I know that one day, I'll find the way

To be safe and sound within your heart

So until I do

I'm gonna give a little love, take a little love

Be prepared to forsake a little love

And when the sun comes shining through

We'll know what to do

Give a little love, take a little love

Be prepared to forsake a little love

And when the sun comes shining through

We'll know what to do

Give a little love, take a little love

Be prepared to forsake a little love

And when the sun comes shining through

We'll know what to do

Give a little love, take a little love

Be prepared to forsake a little love

And when the sun comes shining through

We'll know what to do

Give a little love, take a little love

Be prepared to forsake a little love

And when the sun shines through

We'll know what to do

Give a little love, take a little love

Be prepared to forsake a little love

And when the sun comes shining through

We'll know-
